A Movement Beyond: In Search of Noon Meet Danish
How do we honor the histories and futures of Indian arts and politics? Preethi Ramaprasad
and Ananya Ashok consider their ongoing process through the social movements which impact their approach to Bharatanatyam and Indian music. Inspired by the composition of Sheedi poet Noon Meem Danish and their search for him, Preethi and Ananya ask questions about visibility. Who is seen in the padams and javalis we present, and whose narratives are lost? When we support Black Lives Matter and the Civil Rights Movement, what are the enduring implications as South Asian American artists? In this three part series, Preethi and Ananya reflect on key moments of artmaking with Nadhi Thekkek, Christopher Gurusamy, and Masoom Parmar.
